FPL Terms Glossary — Key Fantasy Premier League Words

Quick definitions for template, differential, chips, xG, and CrowdFPL duel vocabulary.

Core squad terms

Squad — your 15 players for the season until transferred out.

Starting XI — the 11 who score points each gameweek; set in a valid formation.

Bench — four substitutes; auto-sub replaces non-playing starters when possible.

Captain / vice-captain — captain scores double; vice doubles if captain plays 0 minutes.

Transfer — swap one squad player for another. One free per gameweek; extras cost 4 points.

Wildcard — unlimited free transfers for one gameweek (limited uses per season).

Free Hit — temporary squad for one gameweek, then revert to previous team.

Bench Boost — all 15 players score that gameweek.

Triple Captain — captain points tripled twice per season.

Points and stats

Clean sheet — no goals conceded while on pitch (60+ minutes for mids).

Bonus (BPS) — 1–3 extra points for top performers in a match.

Expected goals (xG) — modelled chance quality; useful for form, not FPL points directly.

Effective ownership — how much of your mini-league ranks you on a player including captaincy.

Strategy language

Template — high-ownership core most managers own.

Differential — low-ownership pick for rank swings.

Fixture — upcoming opponent; fixture difficulty ranks schedule strength.

Blank gameweek — team plays zero times that round.

Double gameweek (DGW) — team plays twice in one gameweek.

Price rise / fall — value change from transfer activity.

Punt — risky pick for upside, often a differential.

Duel — head-to-head vote between two players; see live duels.

Crowd rating — aggregated community sentiment on players; see crowd rating.

Crowd split — percentage of votes on each side of a duel.
